Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?
I feel there are people who are more open to things that they don`t see so therefor they don`t need to see to believe and there are others who need more tangible proof of these things By: Joi Sinclair - January 18, 2007 - Public Category: Jesus Heals the Official`s Son

Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?
Because they do not have enough faith and so like Thomas they need to `touch` the miracles and they need to see it. But Jesus does not need to be physically present to heal like in the case of the official`s son. The official is poor in spirit but has faith or better potential for a faith growth and so Jesus challenges him: walk home serene and know that your son is alive. And the official believes. Again there are testimonies saying that when Jesus pronounced those words at that very same time the son was healed. Still eyewitnessing and direct testimonies are impotrtant: they intercross each other with Jesus at the centre. I find the following relevant to today`s lesson and to what happened to some people who saw healings of Jesus but belief did not stay with them:
God and soldier we adore,
in time of danger, not before!
The danger passed, and all things righted,
God is forgotten, and the soldier slighted.

Because they had neither a love of the truth , nor simplicity of heart. unless they see signs and wonders enough to convince them. This was not spoken to the nobleman only, but to the Galileans generally. By: narciso amabao - January 11, 2007 - Public Category: Jesus Heals the Official`s Son

I believe it is a matter of faith. Seeing is believing vs. believing is seeing. By: Patty - January 11, 2007 - Public Category: Jesus Heals the Official`s Son

After the two days he
went out from there and went into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that
a prophet has no honor in his own country. So when he came into Galilee, the
Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in
Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast. Jesus came therefore again to
Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain
nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come
out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him that he would
come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him,
"Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way
believe." The nobleman said to
him, "Sir, come down before my child dies." Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your son lives." The man believed
the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. As he was now going down, his
servants met him and reported, saying "Your child lives!"
So he inquired of them
the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him,
"Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left
him." So the father
knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." He believed, as did his whole
house. This is again the
second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.
